Our Story

A gateway for new ideas.

Timisoara has long been a gateway for new ideas in Romania—an innovative city that has consistently championed cultural and technological progress. This tradition dates back centuries, and today we find ourselves at the next logical step: harnessing transhumanist thought to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Our journey began in 2019, when Prof. Florin Lobont invited Prof. Stefan Sorgner—a leading transhumanist philosopher—to host a weeklong workshop on transhumanism and the ethics of technology at the West University of Timisoara. During that time, Radu Ticiu, a technology educator and venture catalyst who has spent the last two decades promoting entrepreneurship, coding, and biotech, and Dr. Andrei Nutas a local transhumanist philosopher and technology ethicists found themself intrigued by Prof. Sorgner’s vision. In 2023, following a new visit of Prof. Sorgner to Timisoara, that brought everyone together again, a small working group emerged which soon realized that Timisoara had all the elements necessary to establish a thriving and sane transhumanist institute—one dedicated to responsibly guiding transhumanist ideas from concept to reality.

Today, this collective effort is blossoming  into what will be an annual Transhumanist Summer School, forging new international partnerships and fostering forward-thinking conversations that put Timisoara firmly on the map as a European center for transhumanist thought.

Our mission and vision.

We exist to nurture a new generation of ethical innovators and critical thinkers—individuals who use emerging technologies to expand human potential while staying grounded in compassion and responsibility. By bringing together artists, academics, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and policymakers, we foster a culture of collaboration where daring ideas can flourish and shape a better future for all.

  • Ethical Innovation – Encouraging the responsible application of emerging technologies.
  • Collaboration – Connecting diverse voices for richer, more impactful solutions.
  • Empowerment – Equipping participants with tools and mentors to spark meaningful change.

We envision Timisoara evolving into Europe’s foremost transhumanist hub, a place where forward-looking research meets constructive debate to fuel societal progress. By combining the city’s rich history of embracing new ideas and fighting for its ideal with a modern focus on AI, biotech, anti-aging, and more, we aim to set the standard for what a “sane version” of transhumanism can look like—one that respects human dignity and fosters inclusive growth.

  • Thought Leadership – Hosting bold conversations and shaping public discourse on emerging tech.
  • Global Reach – Building networks that transcend borders, bridging Eastern and Western perspectives.
  • Continuous Evolution – Expanding year after year to remain at the cutting edge of transhumanist thought and practice.
About Location

Why Timisoara?

Timisoara is more than just a city—it is a cultural and educational melting pot with a rich history of embracing progress and igniting change. Known as the first city in Europe to have electric street lighting, Timisoara has consistently dared to venture into the unknown. But perhaps most notably, it served as the cradle of the 1989 Revolution, sparking the chain of events that would lead to the fall of communism in Romania. This revolutionary spirit continues to permeate the city, standing as a powerful symbol of resilience, openness, and the unstoppable pursuit of freedom.

Today, Timisoara sits at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, boasting a vibrant tech ecosystem, a bustling artistic scene, and a thriving student community. From its beautiful historic center—replete with elegant Secession-style buildings and picturesque parks—to its forward-thinking entrepreneurship culture, Timisoara radiates an energy that inspires bold visions. Its welcoming atmosphere and strategic position in Europe make it the ideal hub for transhumanist exploration, bridging Eastern and Western perspectives. Here, the revolutionary spirit of the past intertwines seamlessly with the pursuit of ethical, human-centered innovation—making Timisoara the perfect stage for shaping a new era of transformative ideas.
